Playtime at : The Journey

Last Wednesday afternoon, after a family lunch at Parkhouse on Kite Beach, we went to check out Dubai's new outdoor play area, The Journey.

Let me first explain how totally unprepared we were, if I had known how much water would be involved in our visit then I would have at least brought little L a spare change of clothes, hence most of the photos are of him running around playing in a soggy nappy...

When we first walked in, apart from the lovely greenery & everything being beautifully crafted from wood, I wasn't quite sure how this play area was any different from other play areas in Dubai. However, once we started to explore we found that this place was actually quite special, there's definitely no where else like it in Dubai.

The Journey has so much to do from sandpits to wooden climbing frames with slides, a little kitchen area with utensils, water fountains for the kids to run about in and a small wooden water cascade - little L's favourite spot! There's also a stream that runs throughout the park where the children can 'play fishing', climb rocks and there's even mini archery set up on a large green space. If that isn't enough to keep them busy then they can go off and explore the little garden area where they can can water the plants. For us though, the only thing that was missing was a little coffee shop (which is apparently in progress?) where mum & dad could chill out. There is a small shop though & plenty of benches. ;-)

For little L, who is only 16months old, the water features & sandpits were the most suitable for his age and he also loved the little indoor area where there were lots of wooden toys for him to play with. I'd say The Journey is without a doubt the perfect place for any 3-5 year old to roam wild, & although L is still a little young we had great fun & would definitely go back.
